 Shiloh's Horse Donation Policy:
"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me..."
-Matthew 25:35
We ask that prospective donators please read this whole page carefully!
Shiloh is only accepting donated horses on a case by case very limited basis with a prior appointment, discussion, and agreement with Shiloh Staff. We do not take horses whose owners just show up with a horse in the trailer!!!!!
NOTE: If you think you will bypass this policy by DUMPING you horse at Shiloh, think again! It is ILLEGAL to abandon, dump, or leave your horse at another's facility or in the desert! All traffic to Shiloh is monitered and anyone who dumps a horse WILL be prosecuted and we will notify Metro, Animal Control and the Department of Agriculture with your information.
Once a horse is donated to Shiloh, and the previous owner has signed the donation form, the horse is legally owned by Shiloh Horse Rescue. The previous owner terminates ALL rights to the horse. The horse's care is at our sole descretion, ALL decisions regarding the horse are made by the Shiloh staff.
Shiloh Horse Rescue is NOT a retirement facility. All horses may, or may, not be adopted out to new homes at Shiloh's sole discretion.
What to expect if your horse is accepted at Shiloh:
The first thing that will happen is the horse will be given a new name.
The donated horse will be put into a separate corral for a few weeks. However, it is Shiloh's belief, that for their mental well being, horses need to live in herd or group situations. Horses are herd animals and are happiest when they can interact with other horses and create bonds and friendships with their herdmates. When possible, the donated horse will be placed into an appropriate herd with similar horses. This is done at Shiloh's sole descretion.
The horse will be wormed and vaccinanted and given any medical or farrier care. Shiloh horses are well cared for. Each horse is turned out on a regular basis, kept clean, any wounds are cleaned and dressed daily, and if needed, medicated daily. The horses are hosed and bathed regularly. Every horse on the ranch is inspected on a daily basis for any new wounds, weight issues, lameness, or behavioral changes.
The donated horse will then be evaluated for possible adoption.
"Ask not what your horse can do for you, Ask what you can do for your horse."
