We met with staffers from Senator Reid's office, as well as the offices of Congressman John Porter, Congressman Dean Heller, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, and Senator Ensign. All from the state of Nevada. The meetings went very well- asking for support of the Slaughter Bill, or thanking the Representitive for their support of the horses.

Tomorrow we meet with some reps from CA and UT.

We (Jill and Sally) are currently in Washington DC as guests of the United States Humane Society. Today we had a busy day meeting with different Senators asking them to continue to support the Slaughter bill (American horse Slaughter Prevention Act). Tomorrow, we will meet with our NV reps. We are working hard, speaking up for horses.

Yesterday (Monday), we attended the New Holland sale in PA, where we saved 10 horses. Six of them Thoroughbreds off the track, four of them ponies. We will be posting their pics as soon as we get a spare moment. The PA horses will arrive at Shiloh within the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, back at Shiloh, Sharil and Marianne (Shiloh adopters and hard working volunteers) dealt with a horse emergency. Last night, a severly injured horse was dumped about one mile from the rescue. Neighbors found the horse this morning and brought it over to Shiloh. Sharil and Marianne took charge and did everything they could, but the horse had a fractured leg and lower jaw and had to be taken into the vet clinic, two hours away. Leo drove the trailer with his truck. After x-rays, it was decided the kindest thing that could be done was to gently put the mare to sleep. Her injuries were days old and too severe for her to recover. Sharil comforted her while she went to sleep, finally out of pain. In the meantime, Marianne kept an eye on the horses back at the rescue. Shiloh is very lucky to have such dedicated people that we can count on to watch over the horses while we are out of town. We couldn't do it without you guys- neither could the horses!

I will post more tomorrow about our Washington adventures...
