UPDATE: 8/22/07 Essex has been adopted to Jose of Sandy Valley!! He will be working with her to get her halter broke, etc.

Essex running loose with the Wanderers on 6/10/07! She is looking and feeling great! As wild as she likes to pretend she is- she will follow very close to the feed Gator!
UPDATE: 3/29/07 A sad morning at Shiloh as Essex, the pregnant Shire mare rescued a week ago from the feedlot, aborted her foal. The foal was well formed, but still developing. We think the baby died some time ago and was finally expelled this morning.
Essex hads been given no prenatal care throughout her pregnancy before she was rescued. She appeared to be in good shape, although thin. We were all hoping for a healthy birth, but it was not to be. We have no idea where Essex came from before ending up in the feedlot waiting to be picked up for slaughter. We think the stress, lack of care, neglect, and a possible injury in a trailer or at the feedlot caused her to lose the foal.
The foal was buried at Shiloh.
Arrived at Shiloh on 3/25/07
This is a pregnant mare who was rescued along with 24 other pregnant mares from the Fallon Feedlot with the help of Briarwood Riding School in San Diego, CA, who donated more than $1,000.00 to save these mares. (Briarwood's money was used to purchase Essex, the Shire, and Tudor, the Percheron.)
13 of the 25 mares came to Shiloh to have their foals in safety. The remaining mares were placed throughout the United States with other rescue organizations. The Fans of Barbaro (FOBs) raised the funds to save all the remaining mares.
