About Chance

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Horse
  • Current Age: 28 Years 3 Months (best estimate)
  • Location: The Okay Corral

Adoption fee: $400.00

4/30/12 Chance is now moving soundly and back to working under saddle! He is well mannered but still a bit shy. He is healthy, stocky and smooth to ride. He is great in the arena or out on trail. He ties and stands for the farrier. A nice Quarter Horse gelding who will make someone an excellent riding horse.

7/24/09 We are going to start evaluating Chance to see if he can possibly find a home of his own. He appears to be moving soundly after his long time of pasture rehab. More info to come!

UPDATE: 1/08 Chance is really doing well in his recovery. Although he is still a bit lame, he will now canter around his pasture with his friends. He could hardly take a step when he arrived. Chance is still not overly fond of people, but after the way he had been treated, who could blame him. He can be hard to catch, but once caught, he seems to like kind attention. He is currently living in Big Vacation Village

Chance is doing much better, he is far less pain and will even canter around his pasture at times!

Arrived at Shiloh 8/28/07

Chance was callously "dumped" at Shiloh by his owner. One night, his owner brought Chance over, without calling, setting up an appointment, or any knowledge by us that the horse was being donated. He simply drove up and unloaded him and put him in a corral! We guess he planned on just dumping him and driving away, but one of our boarder's, Sharil, saw him. She called us and let us know what was happening. Although it is NEVER our policy to take a horse in without prior knowledge or planning, we accepted him, for the horse's sake, because we were afraid of what his owner would do to the horse if we turned him away.

Chance appears to be suffering from a fracture down in his foot, either on a Pastern bone or the coffin bone. There is no treatment except for rest and pain control, which is what we are doing.

Chance is a sweet gelding, not too crazy about people, but after what he has been through, who can blame him?
