Utah's Story

" How far that little candle throws it's beams!

So shines a good deed in a weary world."
-William Shakespeare

Utah

"Utah" was Shiloh's first rescue.

He was bought at a slaughter auction. At the time we were only able to save one horse. While desperately trying to choose a single life to save from over 50 horses, I spotted a little thin gelding. He looked at me with a sad and resigned look in his eye and I knew I had to save him.

We had Utah for only three months. His previous owner had neglected to treat the skin cancer he had developed and the cancer had begun to spread. He died following surgery.

I believe that the three short months that he was in our care were the best of his life. He had all the food and treats he could eat. He was groomed until he shone. His personality had begun to show and he loved to be turned out to roll and play. When it was time, he died painlessly, with dignity, and comforted by those who loved him.

We will always miss little Utah, but his importance to us and to Shiloh Horse Rescue will never end. He laid the foundation for our rescue and because of him, and what he meant to us, many other horses will find comfort and safety at Shiloh.

Shiloh Horse Rescue is dedicated to his memory and the greatest gift that he had to teach us:

"compassion".
