Today was weaning day at Shiloh!
All the babies have been taken in, separated from their moms, and are haltered. They have been wormed again and will be vaccinated and their hooves trimmed. Now their training begins, learning to like people, lead on the halter, and eventually go on to their new families. It was quite exciting bring the babies in, some were worse than the others! Anyone who has been out to see the foals know that the moms are affectionatly called "the Crazy Mares in the Psych Ward". It was almost impossible to handle the babies up until they were separated from the mares.
After the "rodeo", the babies settled down together to eat some lunch.
Meanwhile, elsewhere on Shiloh Ranch...
"Area 51", the last pasture peacefully grazes on their hay...
The horses enjoy the warm sun. |
