Yesterday was vet day at Shiloh! Desert Pines, Shiloh's vet, made their first trip out to our newer, larger facility in Sandy Valley. Normally, we have to drive horses into the clinic, but now Desert Pines will be coming out to our area for routine care and procedures. We had a long list of horses to be worked on! Creek, Outlaw, and Arson were gelded. Chatty, Navajo, and Shadow had cancerous growths checked and removed. Blood was drawn on Tin Man, Rex, and Holy Heck, Shorty's large sarcoid was removed again, Angel (the Skin Horse) had a skin biopsy done to see if there was anything that can be done to regrow her hair. It was a busy day, the vets were at Shiloh from 10am until almost 5pm!

Maverick was scheduled to be gelded yesterday, but the vets decided that his horribly ulcerated eye need to be actually removed. The ulcer was so old and so deep that his eye just could not be saved. We brought him into the clinc today, where he was laid out in the operating room. He was gelded and his eye removed. He did very well with the two procedures and is recovering well tonight at the clinic. He will return to Shiloh on Friday. Although the eye removal sounds drastic, it was the best thing for Maverick- he was in chronic pain. Now, once he is healed, he will feel better than he has in a long time.
Prepping his eye area.
Afterwards, waking up...
Still out of it! |
