9/25/09 Happy news as Chico has moved to the green of PA with Shiloh friend, Jo Deibel of Angel Acres Horse Haven Rescue! Have fun Chico and Jo!
8/28/09 Chunky little Chico is doing great out in Area 51. He is staying fat and happy and loves to hang out in the big open space at the back of his pasture. He is still as sweet as ever. His foot just will not hold up to riding.
He has an old injury, at some point in his life before he came to Shiloh, Chico ripped off one of his bulbs of his heel in the front. When he first arrived, he was sore and lame due to the area's instability and continual cracking. He was turned out in pasture for the last almost 2 years, and his hoof has regrown to stabilize his heel area. He is now sound. Chico is approx 15.1 hands.
Chico is blind in one eye, but you really would never know it. He is sweet, cute, and looking for love!
We are currently riding him, he is a bit rusty, but is very willing!
Chico is a very cute gelding who was donated to Shiloh by another Animal Rescue that was relocating. He is blind in one eye, which should not affect his rideability or adoptibility. He is currently recovering from surgery to repair a fracture in his other orbital bone that he sustained from hitting his head in his corral. He had to have a small bone sliver removed, but there is no damage to his good eye and he should make a full recovery.
UPDATE: 8/17/06 Chico is such a sweet guy. He lives in the Big pasture and has made some great friends. We are hoping to adopt him out eventually, but he has had some ongoing lameness issues due to a reoccuring hoof crack.
UPDATE: 9/15/05 Chico is doing very well, his eye has healed and his vision seems to be fine.
UPDATE: 10/31/05 Sweet little Chico has lost the sight in his eye that he had the bone sliver removed from. We and our vet were hoping that he would keep the sight- but we noticed that he was slowly beginning to lose it. It has shrunk and his pupil now remains fully dialated. He now has to turn his head all the way around to look at you when you enter his corral. He has sight in his good eye and really does seem to get along just fine.
Once we see what will happen with his sight, he will be re-evaluated.
UPDATE: 9/12/06 Chico is happy and content in the big Pasture. His quarter crack in his hoof is healing and he will be evaluated for possible adoption in the next month or so. He is such a sweet and kind little guy and should make someone a special horse.
