Vet Day 2/25/08
Another Vet day came and went, we all worked until 6pm to get everything done.
Echo Echo was finally gelded, something he has been dreading! But, it needed to be done for his sake, now he can safely join the horse population (well, in about a month or so anyway!). He was excellent for the procedure, although he made his stallion call all the way to the castration area and back. He is doing well today and still had to show off his "stallionness" in the turn out this morning.
The procedure!
Out to lunch!
Afterward...
Pistol, the little 2 year old pony colt was also gelded. He also did very well.
Pistol says, "Oh no, I am NOT going over there!"
The procedure...
The night before the vet day, Journey was acting up in the round pen and came down on a metal panel. Incredibly, she came down just so and cut open her leg and severed her Extensor tendon! How she did that is still a mystery to all of us, but she did it! Dr. Little flushed and cleaned the area, stitched up her leg, and we put her into a leg wrap with a splint. Her prognosis is good, as long as we can keep infection out. She was doing pretty good today and is on antibiodics and Bute for the pain. Much to her chagrin, she is now on complete stall rest in the Hospice.

Godspeed was checked out and found to be doing very well, all his vitals are good. He is eating wonderfully and is showing alot more interest in his surroundings. It is so great to see him, what a special horse. Today, after I removed his blanket, he wandered right out of his corral into the Bungalow's turnout, wandered around a bit, then rolled.
Godspeed gets checked over...
Sanctuary Horse, Chatty had his cancer removed again off of his sheath. This has to be done at least once a year, as it always comes back. He is sore, but doing well.
Chatty's growth
Gato had a skin biopsy taken, we really want to find out exactly what is causing her major skin problems. She also had blood drawn to check her liver function, which can affect the skin's sensitivity to UV light.
Inspirada was re-checked, she should foal any day now!
Hitch's old leg wound was checked. We are just going to let it continue to heal. He should recover just fine for pleasure riding. He is a sweet guy.
A busy day, but a good one! We will be having another Vet Day in about 2-3 weeks.
