About Carson

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Horse
  • Current Age: 19 Years 2 Months (best estimate)
UPDATE: 10/25/07 Carson went into the vet clinic and was gelded. Carson was on his best behavior and is quietly recovering tonight from his ordeal!

Now that he is finally gelded, he can move on to his new home!

UPDATE: 10/12/07 Happy news as Carson's adoption is pending to Kathy of Sandy Valley! Kathy has loved Carson since he arrived at Shiloh and is very excited to adopt this special little horse! Carson will be gelded in the next two months and then go off to his new home!

UPDATE: 8/23/07 Carson has made a big breakthrough! He is now being worked in the round pen and is getting better everyday! It's amazing! Shiloh volunteer and adopter, Dave Hickey has been working with Carson, helping him gain trust. Dave has really made a huge difference in this young horse's life- we call Dave the "Shiloh Horse Whisperer"!

Carson is getting so much better that we will be getting him gelded with in the month!

Carson on 4/26/07- he is coming out of his shell and having a great time! He is still extremely shy- but getting there. Something else has changes- he has finally "dropped" and he is not gelded! Looks like Carson will be heading into the vet clinic just as soon as we can get a halter on him!

Carson on 3/25/07 Carson has been moved into the Mare Motel and is now allowing us to pet his face and he will eat out of our hands! This is a HUGE stap for this frightened horse. Carson is a special guy and we will give him all the time he needs to learn to trust us.

Carson is a cute little colt who was rescued from a feedlot in Fallon, NV where he was scheduled to be shipped to slaughter in Canada within a day.

He arrived very depressed and resigned and we are hoping that once he has settled into his new home at Shiloh that he will perk up. Carson is afraid of people and seems very sad.

Carson has become the "surrogate mother" to little Mariposa, our orphaned filly who was rescued from the same lot.

UPDATE: 8/1/06 As Carson settled in to his new enviroment, we noticed that he has an old neck injury, possibly an old fracture. It looks like it is set and does not seem to be causing him much pain. As he shedded his coat out, we also noticed he has rope scars on both his hind and front pasterns on one side of his body. We believe he was roped and tied up somehow, which caused his scars and his fractured neck. He is still very frightened of people and now we understand why. This poor little sad colt has been very badly abused by people. On the bright side, Carson is looking better and has gained a lot of weight.

UPDATE: 8/7/06 Carson is now being sponsored by Kathy and Larry Bowles of Sandy Valley. They stop by regularly to try to give him treats, we are hoping this extra loving attention will help Carson accept human contact.
