Cabrillo is a four year old chestnut stallion off of the racetrack who raced 19 times. He is a great grandson of the legendary racehorse, Secretariat. Cabrillo sold for $25,000 as a yearling and was rescued three years later OFF of the meat truck?for $400 at a Pennsylvania slaughter auction! He was actually loaded onto the killer's truck and was bought from the killer himself and unloaded.?He was rescued with the help of Lost and Found Horse Rescue.



Cabrillo is quickly becoming a favorite at Shiloh, he is incredibly sweet, gentle, and easy to handle. We are currently treating a very deep cut above his eye?that he received while being transported from PA. He also has many deep scrapes and cuts on his flanks and hindlegs that he sustained when he was being "loaded" (actually chased)?into the slaughter truck at the auction. He is on antibiodics and endures daily thorough cleaning of all of his cuts. Even when we clean the very deep cut by his eye, he never raises his head, or tries to resist in any way. It must be very painful and it has begun to become infected, but Cabrillo really does seem?to know that he is safe and loved?and he allows us to work on him without any trouble. It makes you want to cry when you think that this gentle, trusting, and?loving stallion would have already been dead in the slaughterhouse. How lucky we are that he entered our lives!



UPDATE! Cabrillo has become Jill's personal horse!



1/25/05 Update: Cabrillo was gelded today. He did great and is healing well!


Cabrillo was diagnosed and treated for stomach ulcers. The ulcers were caused by the great stress he had been under during his racing career and his horrible experience at the slaughter auction. He has healed up and is doing very well. He is a special and sweet horse who will be trained in the discipline of Dressage.
