7/10/10 Now that BB is officially and safely weaned, he will be ready to move on to his new home and life!
2/10 BB is doing great! He is gaining weight and spunk and loves all of the attention that he gets every day. He likes to spend a few hours a day in the turn out, either kicking up his heels or napping in the sun. But, whatever he does, he always does it close to mom!
Arrived at Shiloh on 12/30/09 from the Fallon, NV feedlot along with his mom, Nevada.
Nevada gave birth in the freezing snowy feedlot on Christmas morning. She was scheduled to ship to the Canadian slaughterhouse, Bouvery, with in a few days, but she saved her own life by giving birth to her foal.
We were called by our contact and told about this little baby and his mom. We knew the foal would most likely die on the lot, it was in the mid teens and snowing and he was exoposed to the elements. So, Sally and I drove up to Fallon to pick Nevada and Battle Born up. We arrived back at Shiloh on 12/30/09.
We named the foal, Battle Born, after the NV state motto. He was truly born in the midst of a horse welfare battle.
BB is thriving at Shiloh and we are no longer concerned over his health.
